Retaining Wall Work Update

Construction and fencing will be finished next Wednesday , so please be advised that we still mustn’t enter the West garden till then.  And also, be careful if walking alongside fence — new sidewalk section has to ‘cure” for couple  of days this week — avoid stepping into / onto it.  Also, fenceposts are bang set in cement based in ground, in addition to the sidewalk section.  All have to cure.

  • Finally! What took so long? My bedroom faces the garden, and this work has been going for over a month, starting as early as 7:30am(!), including this morning. Do they work all day, or just early enough to ruin everyone’s morning? This has been very slowgoing, from what I have seen day to day.

    • By the way, did you mean next Wednesday, April 21? Or this Wednesday, April 14? Please clarify when the torture will end. Your original notice to our building said two weeks total work.

  • Dear Sleepless, we’re sorry for the duration of the Garden Wall & Fence Project. The lengthened schedule has caused the Gardeners problems also. Many of the delays were caused by the inconsiderate weather conditions which also meant that larger, noisier, equipment finally had to be brought in because of the muddy conditions. This was not planned, not foreseen and not able to be rescheduled predictably. Sorry,

NYC workmen actually have a 7 A.M. (!!) punch-in. They do work all day, weather permitting, until 3 P.M. when they return to their Truck Barn and punch-out at 4 P.M.

Incidentally, the Project was incited by your building’s owner making complaint of the old foundation wall leaning over. The work is now completed. Sleep late.

    • Thanks. I don’t know why NYC construction hours are so inhumane with people living in such tight proximity. Should be intentionally later, not earlier, by this logic in consideration of the largest group of affected people – residents. But that’s not your problem.

I didn’t mention which building I am in, several face the garden. I believe it was across the way, but the garden and adjacent buildings create a miserable amphitheatre of sorts. Sometimes the gardeners don’t seem to remember this either.

Well, one construction torture down, infinity to go!
